Background

Kutch has a rich heritage of embroidery and weaving traditions practiced by different communities for generations. However, despite their extraordinary skills, many artisans historically struggled with irregular income and limited access to markets.

Before the formation of the producer company:

  • Artisans often depended on middlemen or job work
  • Access to urban markets was limited
  • Production systems were fragmented
  • Wages for craft work were often lower than manual labour
